The source of the Blue Nile falls and the largest lake in Ethiopia, which flow to Sudan (Khartoum) and beyond. The lake has a number of islands, whose numbers vary depending on the level of the lake; it has fallen about 6 feet in the last 400 years.

Remain of ancient Ethiopian emperors and treasures of the church are kept in the isolated monasteries. On the island of Tana Kirkos is a rock shown to Paul B. Henze, on which it was told the Virgin Mary had reset on her journey back from Egypt. The body of Yikuno Amlak is interred in the monastery of St. Stephen on Daga isaland; other emperors whose tombs are on Dega including Dawit 1st, Zara Yakob, Ze Dingle and Fasiledes.

The impressive plumes of mist bellowing from the depths of the Blue Nile falls led locals name it “Tis Isat”. It is one of the most spectacular falls in Africa. It was formed by a volcanic blockage
 

One of the few volcanoes on the world that have an almost persistent lava lake. it is isolated basaltic shield volcano, 50km wide rising more than 600meter from below sea level in the barren Danakil depression. Fresh looking flows from these fissures have pored into the calderas and locally overflowed its rim. The summit caldera is renowned for one, or sometimes two long-term lava lakes that have been active since at least 1967, or possibly since 1906. Recent fissure eruptions have occurred on the northern flank of Erta Ale.

The limestone caverns, reputedly the largest in Africa, lies 100km east of the Bale range at an elevation of 1,300m. It has been carved by the Web river, which descends from the Bale highlands to the flat, arid plains that stretch towards the Somali border. The cave is good for bird watchers because it is one of two sites where it’s reasonably easy to see Salvadori’s Serin, Orange-bellied Parrot, Blue-naped mouse bird, small gray Fly catcher, Fischer’s Starling.
